We’re praying for all the families and businesses affected by the fires. Thank you to all the first responders for everything you do to protect people, animals, and homes!
Fall in southern California doesn’t always feel like fall in other states. The days are warm, the Santa Ana winds are blowing, and the news is filled with wild fires. The hills are covered in dry brush instead of color changing maple or aspen trees. With that being said, California is still very agricultural leading to some pretty awesome farms that are open to the public. The best part is, during the fall they turn into pumpkin patches! Visiting a pumpkin patch quickly became one of our favorite fall traditions.
Before we get into how awesome the Underwood Family Farms Fall Harvest Festival is, I’ve included photos below from our first trip to a pumpkin patch 8 years ago for your enjoyment.
I love that we are creating these traditions together, even though we don’t have kids yet! This year, we were stoked to check out the Fall Harvest Festival at Underwood Family Farms in Moorepark, CA.
The Corn Maze
Our first stop was the corn maze! We’ve done a few mazes together (i.e. the pineapple maze at the Dole Plantation), but this one was so fun! The corn stalks are pretty high, and it was challenging to say the least.

The Tractor-Drawn Wagon Ride
After making our way through the corn maze, we hoped on the tractor-drawn wagon ride. This takes you around the grounds of the farm, through the gourd and passion fruit tunnels, and stops for people to get on and off at the u-pick area. We weren’t originally planning on picking produce, but our tractor driver talked us into it!

Signs throughout tell you what’s in season and ready to be picked. We picked some carrots, bell peppers, tomatoes, and jalapenos.

The Pumpkin Patch
The display of pumpkins at Underwood Family Farms is huge. There are tractors dotted throughout, as well as hay bail spiders and lots of scarecrows.

The Animals
No visit to a farm is complete without checking out the animals! The barnyard is filled with chickens, goats, cows, rabbits, horses, turkeys, and alpaca. You can buy specific food for each animal from a machine for a quarter and feed them through a tube.

We had a great time visiting Underwood Family Farms during their Fall Harvest Festival, and look forward to visiting again the spring.
Comment below your fall traditions! We’d love to hear. 🙂
