Although we had limited time in Waikiki and Honolulu, we were looking forward to checking out some new places as well as visiting some old favorites. Our first night, we wandered around Waikiki and walked through the Royal Hawaiian Center. Although travel had opened up in Hawaii for a few months at that time, we were amazed at how empty town was.
The next day, we woke up early to watch sunrise in one of our favorite spots and enjoy breakfast on the beach. Then we walked through Waikiki to the Ala Moana Center, where we enjoyed some refreshing drinks at Island Vintage and did some window shopping.
Next on the list was renting Biki Bikes to ride over to Aloha Tower. We’d never been, and it someplace we’ve been wanting to check out! Aloha Tower is a retired lighthouse in Honolulu Harbor. It is now owned by Hawaii Pacific University, who continues to restore and develop the area.
We hopped back on our bikes to ride over to Ala Moana Beach Park to enjoy some L&L Hawaiian BBQ for lunch.
After lunch we walked back through Waikiki in hopes of enjoying a sunset surf session. Unfortunately, by the time we made it back, the board rental location was closed for the day. So we decided to make the best of it and instead play in the shorebreak until sunset.
To celebrate our last night in Hawaii, we went out for a relaxing and delicious dinner at Duke’s Waikiki. If you go, of course, don’t forget to have a Mai Tai for us.
