Wow! 2020! I can confirm that we didn’t expect the year to turn out like this back in January, or February, or even March. We came home from our trip to Zion and the stores were quickly sold out of everything. No water. No food. No toilet paper. The shelves were bare. Although the stores have thankfully been restocked with essential items, life still looks a lot different. This summer we made it our mission to continue to find the beauty in the world around us.
Living Through a Pandemic
As spring was coming to a close, California instituted it’s “Safer at Home” policy, and that’s just what we did. We stayed close to home, and spent hours disinfecting our groceries every time we went to the store.
We also tried to get out of the house when we could to go skateboarding or surfing. We even got to see the AWESOME bioluminescent waves!
Then, we moved! Moving in the middle of a pandemic was interesting to say the least. We were torn between moving from Camarillo up to Santa Barbara, or making the move back to Orange County to be closer to family. After searching for apartments in both locations, we decided to make the move back! On top of that, we didn’t see our apartment in person until the day we picked up our keys.
Snapshots of Summer 2020
After moving back, we gradually started to open up our circle and began seeing close family and friends again. Even with all the normal 4th of July firework shows being cancelled, we were still able to celebrate and light a few of our own.
We spent more time at the beach than we have in a few years. Surfing, snorkeling, and just playing in the waves, the ocean provides the best stress relief there is! We even got to see sea turtles! It was our first time seeing them in California, and brought us back to being on vacation in Hawaii or Mexico.

We took advantage of the blessing it is to live in Southern California by enjoying the outdoors as much as possible.
Going for walks before or after work.
Spending time at the beach or near the water each weekend.
And even searching all over the county for the infamous fire fighting goats.
We even managed to go on a day trip to San Diego, as places slowly began to open up.
One thing is for certain, let’s continue to work hard, be nice to people, and share the aloha everywhere we go. We’ve all been through a lot this year, and we could all use a little more aloha in our lives. We excited to see what this fall has in store and expectant of good things to come.
How has your summer been? What are you most exited about for this fall? I know we’re ready for fall beach days and all things pumpkin and apple. 🙂
