We started off our third day in Arizona by hiking the Island Trail in Walnut Canyon National Monument. Walnut Canyon NM is located about 20 minutes from Downtown Flagstaff and the Island Trail is a must do! After climbing down 240 steps, you walk through 25 different cliff dwelling rooms along a peninsula that juts out into the canyon! Not to mention, the canyon is absolutely beautiful.
After our hike, we wandered around Downtown Flagstaff, checking out the local shops and visitor center. We also enjoyed our very first Route 66 Root Beer along the Historic Route 66!
